Dry Martini

This is one of the most iconic cocktails in the world of bartending, and surely the most debated when it comes to its composition. Originally made with equal parts Gin and Vermouth, over time Gin has come to dominate, to the point where it can now be served dry (as shown here), extra dry (the ice cubes are rinsed with vermouth), and naked, or Churchill style (where the vermouth's vapours are simply breathed in without being part of the cocktail itself).

INGREDIENTS

55 ml Gin
15 ml Dry Vermouth
Green olive

DIFFICULTY

Medium – 10 minutes

GLASS

Martini glass

PREPARATION

In a mixing glass filled with ice cubes, pour in the Dry Vermouth and the Gin.

Stir with a bar spoon for 10 to 15 seconds to chill everything.

Then strain into a chilled Martini glass.

Garnish with a green olive for a Dry Martini.

Variations:

– Garnish with a cocktail onion for a Gibson

– Add 5 ml of olive brine for a Dirty Martini

– Replace the gin with vodka for a Vodkatini
