For over a century, Distillerie des Alpes has carried on the art of crafting Génépi à l’Ancienne in Chambéry, inspired by traditional recipes and the legendary expertise of Alpine master distillers. This iconic liqueur, made from Artemisia mutellina (génépi), embodies the soul of the mountains and the excellence of a unique terroir.

Génépi: A Legendary Plant

Artemisia mutellina, more commonly known as génépi, grows exclusively in the Alpine massifs, above 1,500 metres of altitude. Its leaves and stems, rich in complex aromas, offer herbaceous, floral and slightly spiced notes, characteristic of great mountain spirits. With the rise of tourism and winter sports, génépi has become a symbol of the French Alps, a liqueur as rare as it is sought-after.

Our Génépi à l’Ancienne is the result of a rigorous artisanal process:

To preserve the soul of this legendary liqueur, we have combined tradition and innovation: our historic 1901 still, restored in 1998 after more than 50 years of inactivity, now stands alongside our new Stupfler still, a symbol of modernity and precision. These two tools, one steeped in history, the other at the cutting edge of technology, are designed to respect the delicacy of the plants.
